You're sitting on a manifesto that could change the world? You are writing the Great Eurasian Novel? You have composed a symphony that shatters everything we thought we knew about music?
At Hubris Publishing, we don't settle for anything less.
Every publication will have a limited run of prestige prints, because great works ought to be celebrated — and every publication will simultaneously be published for free online under CC-BY-SA, because great works deserve to be seen by everyone.
Why Hubris?
"When [a] crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around." (Milton Friedman)
There are too few ideas lying around. Too few people dare to think big. Complaints and indictments are a dime a dozen, but grand visions are lacking — in politics as well as in art, in culture as well as in literature.
"The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born." (Antonio Gramsci)
We cannot bring new things into existence if we do not dare to look beyond the narrow borders of the status quo. Too often, any attempt to go beyond the small-minded consensus of the day is derided as hubris — so let's own it and say: hubris is what this world needs more of.
Hence, Hubris Publishing.
Is this a vanity press?
Yes and no. Yes because it takes some vanity to create a work of grand ambition — or to flip it around, because ambition is often called vanity by those trying to take you down.
No because we don't charge you for publishing your book. If we think your book is great, we'll publish it at our own cost and our own risk.
You have a grand, ambitious project? Tell us about it.
